Opened in 1913 and recently renovated, the oldest original inn in La Jolla has "spectacular" ocean views, "one of the best restaurants in the area" (Nine-Ten) and a "staff that can't do enough for you"; fans also like the "convenient location" that's "close to the water and within walking distance of great dining" as well as the "large rooms" with "huge closets" "you don't find in modern cookie-cutter chains"; overall, it's a "pleasant surprise."

Location and charm.
Noisy; our room was located above the restaurant nearby and the alley. We could hear patrons until 2 a.m and deliveries began very early in the a.m.

Within walking distance from shopping, dining and beach.
A little noisy at night, but not too bad.

Very nice elegant hotel, staff very helpful, and the "turn down service" was a nice surprise when we got to the hotel at night. The room was a little small, but for two it's perfect and romantic.
